  • Sustainable use of plant protection products

The sustainable use of plant protection products came into force with Directive 2009/128/EC, implemented with the legislative decree No. 150 of 14 August 2012, establishing a “framework for Community action to achieve the sustainable use of pesticides”.

For the implementation of this directive, the National Action Plan (NAP) adopted in Italy with the Interministerial Decree of 22 January 2014 has been defined, which promotes the use of more sustainable plant protection products and provides information to reduce the impact of plant protection products in the agricultural areas, in non-agricultural areas (urban green areas, roads, railways, etc.) and in protected natural areas. Each region has then implemented the legislative decree and the NAP and each has adapted the legislation to its own territory also providing for further restrictions.

The NAP is being reviewed by the competent ministries and authorities.

This manual updated to 2016 gathers all the recommendations and suggestions to comply with the provisions of the complex legislation on the sustainable use of plant protection products described above.
